The story of three soldiers defending the Swiss border, when a fourth one, half-Swiss and half-Indian, steps in to bring the terrible new: Switzerland is at war ! A funny and moving tale engulfing the Swiss favorites themes of immigration, identity and army!

Salt in the scars

A film by Fiorella Castanotto.
The saltpans of Marakanam in South India. While following Reena, a woman who earns her living collecting sea salt,viewers are challenged to consider the important stakes involved in this simple seasoning. Conceived as a documentary without dialogue or voice‐over, the film alternates moments of silence and natural sound, minimalist music and uncluttered shots. Presented like a piece of polyphonic music, the day spent collecting sea salt points up the link between this ingredient, an essential part of life and a fundamental component in thousands of industrial and chemical products, and the work performed by human beings.

Aline

Aline, a solitary and introverted young girl living in the Alps, falls in love passionately with a tourist. But when she sees him again in town he tells her that he doesn’t love her. Unable to accept this rejection Aline increasingly goes insane, hearing voices that suggest another way to unite with her lover.

Aline the apple tree

Minigolf – short

Minigolf, directed by Kamal Musale, is the first of a series of films on choreographic interventions in the urban landscape of Lausanne, Cartographies is a project created by Compagnie Philippe Saire. The choreography was invented onset, during a week, a work shared between the choreographer, the film-maker and the dancers.

Pacific Dairy – Documentary 

The immigration of Basques to America at the beginning  of the century as seen through  the Nomades’ dance troupe and their choreographer Serge Campardon, from Basque origin. The camera follows the dancers during the creation of the work, from the rehearsals and the traditional celebrations to the performance on stage.

Mummenschanz

In 1977  new group of actors unknown from the American culture arrives in New York: “The Mummenschanz”, creators of an art without faces, texts, music nor songs. This so surprising performance faces such a great success that it runs on Broadway for over three years.

Since then, six different groups – perfect replicas from the original one – have travelled the world performing the magical virtues of Mummenschanz silence.

In 1998, in spite of the death of their friend and partner André Bossard, Floriana Frassetto and Bernie Schuerch – Mummenschanz’ creators – go back to the creation of a new stage performance.

This film documents their history and is an ode to their sculptural contribution to modern visual art.

Pieds Nus

A short funny film with an edge, a pilot for a feature film never shot. In this scene, set inside a theater, a depressed choreographer doesn’t remember why he was hired, and what he actually rehearses.

Zé – healers in the invisible worlds

A voyage to the unknown and invisible worlds of spiritual healing. An incredible encounter with trance and healing in Brazil. This miraculous film researches the altered states of consciousness in which healers plunge into to enter into contact with the spirits. Combining dramatic strength, and extraordinary visuals, this trip is a meditation on illness, health and death.

Etats Generaux

Etats généraux of Philippe Saire, choreographer. An original approach to show the work of the Swiss choreographer, through an investigation by three journalists, trying to understand what the choreographer might be hiding from them in his work. The film is shot through tainted glasses as if in a police interrogatory room, with green boxes. 2006 – 52′ (Swiss television SF and TSR).

Rosamunde

An invitation to chamber music through the rehearsal of four young musicians, interpreting Schubert’s quartet. A master class led by Mrs Andrée Wachsmuth Loew, the famous first violonist, now deceased.
The 40 minutes film is produced by Steve Ayrton for Les Films du Lotus, directed by Kamal Musale.

COMME UNE DISTANCE

A transposition for the screen of “Comme un distance” the show of one most talented contemporary dancechoreographers of her time, Dominique Genton. The music is by Roger Baudet, who will become a long-time collaborator of filmmaker Kamal Musale. This short film is often cited as the first dance film about contemporary dance in the french part of Switzerland.
